314 Action Fund Endorses Daniel Biss and Dr. Matt Klein for Congress in Illinois and Minnesota

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — 314 Action Fund today announced the endorsement of Daniel Biss for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District and State Senator Dr. Matt Klein for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. Dr. Klein is a Guardian of Public Health candidate, answering the call to serve as 314 Action works to elect 100 new doctors in office by 2030.

“Health care will be a defining issue in the midterms. (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement on Senator Bill Cassidy’s call to delay tomorrow’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices panel:

“Senator Bill Cassidy is a sellout. He cast the deciding vote to confirm RFK Jr. as HHS Secretary — a reckless move that dismissed urgent warnings from thousands of scientists. He put Trump’s extremist agenda above public health, and now that the consequences are unfolding, he’s scrambling to distance himself. Too late. Cassidy helped open the door to this disaster”

“314 Action joins calls to postpone tomorrow’s vaccine advisory panel until a CDC director is in place and a proper investigation is conducted. RFK Jr. has replaced respected scientists with his hand-picked group of anti-vaccine activists to push his agenda without oversight from a CDC director. Americans deserve to know why RFK Jr. shrank the ACIP committee from 17 to eight and if the members’ credentials match the qualifications required by law. Until then, this committee cannot be allowed to make vaccine recommendations.

Following RFK Jr.’s announcement of his new vaccine advisory panel, 314 Action slammed his decision and immediately called for an investigation into the appointed members. The organization has also launched a petition demanding the MAHA Report be immediately removed and retracted from the White House website, which has been signed by a coalition of 100 elected officials, doctors, and STEM leaders.

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, today released the following statement on the third anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, effectively overturning Roe v. Wade and stripping abortion protections from millions of Americans:

“Three years ago, anti-abortion extremists on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, setting health care back by almost 50 years. This cruel decision was just the beginning of Republicans’ attack on women’s bodies. Since the Dobbs decision, 19 states have enacted extreme abortion bans, physicians have been criminalized, and Congress is working to roll back contraception protections. Just last month, Donald Trump revoked EMTALA guidance, which protected hospitals from providing emergency care for women experiencing pregnancy complications.

“Too many women have already died due to abortion bans but you don’t have to be a doctor to predict the dangerous consequences for women. Today, our mission to elect pro-choice scientists and doctors to office is more urgent than ever.”

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — 314 Action today launched a new digital ad, as first reported by The Hill, in response to dramatic cuts to scientific research and the rise in attempts from foreign nations to recruit American scientists. 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“Scientists made America a superpower,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, “Every American president before Donald Trump understood the importance of investing in science. It’s how we landed a man on the moon, invented the internet, and developed life-saving vaccines.


“American ingenuity is in our DNA — but with billions of federal grant dollars on hold, research institutions under attack and more cuts to science baked into Republicans’ ‘Big Bad Bill’, the Trump administration has brought scientific innovation to a standstill. If we continue to hemorrhage funding for research, we will lose American scientists and stop leading the world in scientific breakthroughs.”

Bottom line: Today, other countries are ramping up recruitment efforts and offering incentives like tenure and guaranteed funding for the next 20 years to bring American scientists to their labs. The journal Nature reported that more scientists are looking for jobs abroad with a 20-40% increase in job applications in Canada, Europe, China, and other Asian countries, compared to this time last year.

The new ad “Science is Our Superpower” targets swing districts and is part of 314 Action’s ongoing seven-figure advocacy campaign to hold Trump’s dangerous anti-science administration accountable.

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement on the new Public Policy Polling survey showing Christina Bohannan leading Rep. Miller-Meeks, 43 percent to 39 percent, in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District race:

“This is the most competitive race in the nation and the stakes couldn’t be higher. In 2024, Mariannette Miller-Meeks won by only 799 votes—the slimmest GOP margin in the entire country. Today, Rep. Miller-Meeks is the most vulnerable Republican in America and was the deciding vote in the House to advance the largest cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in history. Her vote could strip health insurance from 21,000 Iowans in the 1st District.”

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — One month ago, the White House released “The MAHA Report”, which has been found to cite fake sources or completely misrepresent studies, first reported by NOTUS.

In response, a coalition of more than 30 state and elected officials, doctors and STEM leaders co-signed a letter with 314 Action demanding the MAHA Report be immediately removed and retracted from the White House website.

314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“One month since the MAHA Report was published, a coalition of more than 30 state and local elected officials, doctors and grassroots STEM leaders have joined forces with 314 Action to reject its false claims and demand answers from the MAHA Commission.

“A report that presents false data as fact to perpetuate myths about childhood disease, anxiety and depression in adolescence, ADHD, and autism undermines confidence in the entire scientific community and puts children at risk. This report should never have been published and cannot be allowed to stand on the White House website — it must be removed immediately.”
