314 ACTION RAMPS UP EFFORTS IN 9 PIVOTAL STATES, INCLUDING LOUISIANA, WHERE SENATOR BILL CASSIDY WILL HELP DETERMINE RFK JR.’S FATE AS HHS SECRETARY

The Digital Ad Campaign Will Sound a 5 Alarm Fire on RFK Jr.’s Dangerous and Deadly Record

January 17, 2025

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) — 314 Action today announced a 60 second ad spotlighting Robert F. Kennedy’s role in Samoa’s deadly outbreak of measles ahead of his Senate confirmation, will run as a digital ad to raise awareness and sound the alarm to Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA)—in addition to eight other Republican Senators in other key states—on RFK Jr.’s disastrous record.

This is the 3rd phase of 314 Action’s six-figure, multi-pronged campaign to stop RFK Jr. from leading HHS while educating the American public of the dangers RFK Jr. poses to the nation’s public health.  Shaughnessy Naughton, the Founder and President of 314 Action said the organization has taken on the responsibility of appealing to Senators to oppose RFK Jr. because of what’s at stake.

We believe that sensible Senators, including Democrats and Republicans can come together in the best interest of the American public and reject RFK Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President and Co-Founder of 314 Action. “It cannot be understated how much of a threat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is to Americans. His deliberate and reckless disinformation campaign led to the 2019 deadly measles outbreak in America Samoa—which killed 83 and infected over 5,000 people. There’s no doubt that RFK Jr. will endanger the lives of millions and damage our health care system for years to come. He cannot be trusted to follow the science, facts, and data to make crucial public health decisions.”

The ads feature Dr. Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii, joined by other health care professionals, describing the devastation RFK Jr. directly caused in Samoa by spreading medical disinformation that led to the death of 83 people, mostly young children. Dr. Green speaks about his personal experience and the gravity of the destruction he saw in Samoa—due to RFK Jr.’s misinformation.

314 Action has been leading the fight against RFK Jr.’s nomination to be the Secretary of HHS. Last week, 314 Action hosted a
press conference with Governor Dr. Josh Green and Congress members with medical backgrounds to warn against RFK Jr.’s anti-vaccine stance. Earlier this month, the organization aired ads against RFK Jr. on CNN and Fox News in the DC area. In December, the organization announced a six-figure digital ad campaign against RFK Jr., with the first ads targeting Facebook ads aimed at five GOP senators who are more likely to oppose the nomination.

The $250,000 Digital Ad Campaign Will Sound a 5 Alarm Fire on RFK Jr.’s Dangerous and Deadly Record Awareness Campaign to run in Alaska, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah to Oppose RFK Jr.’s Nomination to Lead HHS

January 17, 2025

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) —  314 Action today announced the next phase of its campaign to oppose RFK Jr. ‘s nomination for HHS. A 60 second ad titled “Samoa”, highlighting Robert F. Kennedy’s deadly role in Samoa’s measles outbreak that infected over 5,000 people and killed 83 will run in 9 key states whose Senators could be the deciding vote against his nomination. The GOP Senators who hold the cards on RFK Jr.’s nomination include Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Thom Tillis (R-NC), John Curtis (R-UT), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Mike Rounds (R-SD).

The ad, “Samoa” which features Dr. Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii, shares firsthand accounts of the devastation caused by RFK Jr. ‘s disinformation campaign in Samoa that led to the death of 83 people, mostly young children. Dr. Green speaks about his personal experience and the gravity of the destruction he saw in Samoa—due to RFK Jr.’s misinformation.

“RFK Jr. helped spread vaccine misinformation that led to disease outbreaks which infected thousands, and killed children who should still be alive today,” said Dr. Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii.

“Now we know that he was paid over $2 million by an anti-vaccine organization during that time, and he lied about the money he took and tried to conceal some of the payments. RFK Jr. and his anti-vaccine ideas are a danger to America’s children, and the millions of dollars he took to spread vaccine misinformation make him utterly unfit and should disqualify him from leading the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.”

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is Trump’s most dangerous nominee—we are doing everything to keep him as far away from American public health as possible,” said 314 Action President and Founder Shaughnessy Naughton. “Facts, data, and evidence-based knowledge should always be at the foundation of our policies, but even more so when overseeing health. But, RFK Jr. has disregarded medical expertise, time and time again, in favor of fringe beliefs and conspiracy theories.”

Naughton continued, “We’ve had the honor of working with Governor Dr. Green to help share his personal experience and RFK Jr.’s role during the American Samoa measles outbreak. We’ve also teamed up with the incredible medical practitioners from Congress to raise greater awareness to the dangers RFK Jr. poses. And while we’re proud of the work we’ve done, we will continue to work around the clock to fight his nomination and keep him from holding office.”

“It’s a real-life example of what this individual will [do] as the nation’s leading health-care official,” said Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D), a physician who responded to Samoa’s outbreak five years ago and said he witnessed the deaths of measles-afflicted infants.

Kennedy “is an immediate danger to public health and it’s clear that he cannot be trusted to keep Americans safe and healthy,” Shaughnessy Naughton, president of 3.14 Action, said in a statement. “Senators on both sides of the aisle must hold RFK Jr. accountable for his actions and reject his nomination to Secretary of Health and Human Services.”

“The health and well-being of 336 million Americans depend on leadership at HHS that prioritizes science, evidence-based medicine, and strengthening the integrity of our public health system,” the letter reads. “RFK Jr. is not only unqualified to lead this essential agency — he is actively dangerous.”

“This appointment is a slap in the face to every health care professional who has spent their lives working to protect patients from preventable illness and death,” the letter says.

Dr. Green Urged the Senate to Reject RFK Jr. for HHS and Warned Senators of the Threats to Public Health Posed by his Confirmation

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Hawaii Governor Doctor Josh Green, an Emergency Room Physician, was joined by medical practitioners from Congress, including Rep. Ami Bera (CA-06), Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-08), Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Rep. Herb Conaway (NJ-03), and 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton to discuss the importance of preserving Americans’ public health, including protecting vaccines for childhood diseases. Governor Green spoke about his role in vaccinating Samoans after a deadly measles outbreak infected 5,000 people and killed dozens of children following RFK Jr.’s misinformation campaign. Governor Green warned of the dangers posed by RFK Jr.’s nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

I know firsthand the destruction and devastation caused by RFK Jr.’s reckless disinformation campaign because I helped lead a team of 75 healthcare professionals to vaccinate Samoans after RFK Jr.’s disinformation campaign led to the worst measles outbreak in the nation’s history. It cost 83 people, mostly children, their lives but our efforts stopped more unnecessary deaths from occurring and shows us that you can do the right things in public health,” said Governor Josh Green (D-HI).

“What happens in the Senate with RFK Jr.’s confirmation for HHS, and frankly, the decision the incoming Senators are going to make, is an absolute life or death decision. This is not partisan. This is not political. This is medical. It is about the health and lives of the American people,” continued Dr. Green.

As a pediatrician, Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-08) said she knows firsthand the importance of immunizations and the role it plays in keeping our country healthy. “Immunizations have saved countless lives, in the millions. Because of misinformation and doubt, many worried parents would come and see me as a pediatrician. I have spent many hours reassuring them, going over the data, talking about misinformation and how dangerous it is, and what the data actually shows. Sowing needless doubt in the minds of parents and the citizens of this country should disqualify Robert Kennedy Jr. from this job. Make no mistake, stoking vaccine hesitancy will lead to deaths. We are here to let the incoming Trump Administration and the Senate know that we believe RFK Jr. is not only unqualified for this role but would be dangerous to the nation and to the rest of the world.”

Rep. Ami Bera, who represents California’s 6th district and spent over 20 years as an Internal Medicine doctor, said the science on vaccines was very clear. “The safety and efficacy of vaccines is incredibly clear. We know what we can do with vaccines. So, imagine if the top public health official in the leading country in the world were to come out and say, well, we don’t know about vaccines. This is a dangerous nominee. This is a dangerous pick, and we need to be very careful here. I urge the Senate to reject this nomination, and I urge President Trump to rethink this nomination. Leave it to the scientists and the doctors and the nurses and the healthcare professionals to make the decisions about the best medical care necessary. We don’t need politicians making those decisions.”

Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14), a Registered Nurse and leader in the U.S. House on health policy, highlighted and reiterated the importance of investing in local communities to increase immunization rates. “The data show that vaccines work. History shows that vaccines work. Now is the time that we should be investing in our communities to help them increase their immunization rates and keep our children, and our families, and our seniors, and our communities, safe and protected. Now is the time to fund the agencies doing world class research and protecting public health. I spent much of my second term fighting tooth and nail to make sure that my community had everything needed to stay safe and healthy, because Donald Trump’s administration turned a crisis into a catastrophe. We know this playbook, and we will not allow it to happen again.”

Rep. Herb Conaway (NJ-03), an Internal Medicine doctor with 3 over decades experience in public health weighed in on the dangers posed by RFK Jr.’s propensity to spread misinformation. “People should expect that one of their trusted sources should be the leader of the Department of Human Services that’s responsible for public health, but now we have a person, a nominee, who has shown through his actions that he is willing to deal misinformation. Let’s hope our senators, who have a direct responsibility here, hold these nominees, and particularly Mr. Kennedy, as a nominee to HHS, accountable for his actions, for his words. He says he’s going to leave the current vaccine program alone, but he’ll have a decision about whether or not new vaccines can go forward and be studied and researched and be brought to the market. That’s a very important power he has, and a very dangerous one, in my view, if his decision making is not grounded firmly in science where it needs to be.”

Shaughnessy Naughton, the Founder and President of 314 Action said RFK Jr. disqualified himself for rejecting decades of data, and instead clinging to conspiracy theories. “As these health care providers attested to, and decades of data has shown, are that vaccines are effective and safe and necessary for preventing deaths. RFK Jr. has a well documented history of rejecting the expertise of those who have spent their lives working in public health, instead clinging to and promoting fringe theories and beliefs and conspiracy theories with life and death consequences. This should be a disqualifier for the person tasked with leading the nation’s top health agency. It’s a good thing that scientists don’t conduct their studies as recklessly as RFK Jr. handles the truth.”

“We may not agree on all public health issues, of course, but the foundational ones have to be in the wheelhouse of the next HHS Secretary, because if they’re not, millions and millions of people who are on the bubble will not get vaccinated, and children who are vulnerable will pay the price. So I would humbly ask that they rethink the nomination of RFK Jr., move on and give us someone who’s going to fight for our children,” concluded Governor Green.

The Ads Featuring Dr. Josh Green (Governor of Hawaii), Family Members, and Public Health Experts with Warnings about RFK, Jr will Run on Fox News and CNN

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) —  314 Action today released a new 60 second television ad and a 2 minute digital ad highlighting Robert F. Kennedy’s role in Samoa’s deadly outbreak of measles ahead of his Senate confirmation hearing for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). The ads feature Dr. Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii; Nadine Telle Salle, Chief of Pediatrics in Queens Health System; and Dr. Heath Chung, an infectious disease specialist, as they describe the devastation RFK Jr. directly caused in Samoa by spreading medical disinformation that led to the death of 83 people, mostly young children.

In the ad, Dr. Green talks about his personal experience, traveling to Samoa in order to vaccinate the county and stop the measles outbreak. He saw firsthand the destruction caused by RFK, Jr, and what his confirmation as HHS would mean for the nation.

“In the months leading up to the worst measles outbreak of this century, RFK Jr. went to Samoa and legitimized fake health groups. He used every trick in the book to dissuade people from getting vaccinated. He had spread so much disinformation that Samoan’s stopped vaccinating. And that caused a tragic and fatal spread of the measles that killed mostly children,” said Dr. Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii. “And why? Why, RFK, would you do that? Why would you go to a country when you’re not a health care provider and expose innocent people to terrible outcomes and put them in harm’s way?”

Shaughnessy Naughton, the Founder and President of 314 Action said the organization took on the very important task of educating Senators and key constituencies in Washington about RFK, Jr’s role because of what’s at stake.

“This deadly measles outbreak lands on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s shoulders—his anti-vaccine conspiracy theories led to over 4,800 people infected and dozens of dead children,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President and Co-Founder of 314 Action. “There’s nothing RFK, Jr can say to bring back the innocent lives lost due to his recklessness. He is an immediate danger to public health and it’s clear that he cannot be trusted to keep Americans safe and healthy. Senators on both sides of the aisle must hold RFK Jr. accountable for his actions and reject his nomination to Secretary of Health and Human Services.”

The television ads will run on Fox News and CNN in the Washington, D.C. market starting on January 6th. 314 Action has been leading the fight against RFK Jr.’s nomination to be the Secretary of HHS. In December, the organization announced a six-figure digital ad campaign against RFK Jr., with the first ads targeting Facebook ads aimed at five GOP senators who are more likely to oppose the nomination.

[Samoan Mother]: It’s the most complicated and painful thing in life.

[Felea’i Tau]: It was…it was pretty rough.

[Dr. Josh Green]: RFK Jr. went to Samoa and legitimized fake health groups. He elevated them to a place where they seemed to have some kind of health care knowledge or authority.

That killed children.

[Dr. Heath Chung]: So, you had a whole huge outbreak of a preventable infection because of misinformation.

Measles is one of the most infectious viruses known to man.

[Dr. Josh Green]: When someone brings star-power to a public health question, a lot of people will believe it.

So when Kennedy and his wife landed in Samoa, they used every trick in the book to dissuade people from getting vaccinated.

[Dr. Heath Chung]: You can’t have people that are not trained in medicine, not trained in infectious diseases calling the shots.

That’s like asking me, who has no experience in engineering, to design a bridge.

 [Dr. Josh Green]: And why?

Why, RFK, did you do that?

Why would you go to a country when you’re not a health care provider and expose those innocent people to terrible outcomes.

[Dr. Heath Chung]: From an infectious disease standpoint, I am concerned. I’m not a politician, I don’t make policy. But I think we have to be really smart about who we put in power.

[Dr. Josh Green]: RFK Jr. puts everyone in harm’s way.

SIX FIGURE CAMPAIGN IS FIRST PHASE OF MULTI-PRONGED CAMPAIGN TO DERAIL RFK, JR’s BID for HHS

December 11, 2024

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) — Calling RFK, Jr.’s nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) a national crisis, 314 Action today announced the launch of a new six figure digital ad campaign to oppose his bid for the nation’s top health care post. As first reported in Axios, the organization’s ad campaign will put the spotlight on five Republican U.S. Senators, including Susan Collins (R-ME), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA), John Cornyn (R-TX) and call on them to vote against Robert F. Kennedy’s confirmation.

“From causing a deadly measles outbreak in Samoa, perpetuating outlandish conspiracy theories, and rejecting modern, life-saving medical advancements—RFK Jr. has proven to be a dangerous extremist who is unfit to lead our nation’s premier health agency,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President and Founder of 314 Action. “Our elected officials have a responsibility to listen to their constituents’ concerns—which is why we’re calling on people to call their U.S. Senators and tell them to vote against RFK Jr’s nomination to HHS. If confirmed, RFK Jr. will immediately put the lives of families and children in danger and the health of millions of Americans at risk. It’s crucial for Senators on both sides of the aisle to reject his nomination.”

The digital ads targeting constituents of Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Susan Collins (R-ME), John Cornyn (R-TX), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Thom Tillis (R-NC), urging them to call these senators to vote against RFK Jr.’s confirmation. Collins, Tillis, and Cornyn are all up for re-election in ‘26 and Cassidy is a physician who is likely to become the Chair of the healthcare committee. The digital ads on Facebook will target GOP leaning voters and urge them to call their Republican Senators to express their displeasure and opposition to RFK Jr.

Naughton added, “We’re proud to lead the fight against RFK Jr.’s nomination. We refuse to back down because the stakes are higher than ever. We will do everything we can to ensure that our lawmakers and this new Administration uses science, facts, and data to make public policy decisions in order to best safeguard our nation. We look forward to continuing our efforts to spotlight RFK Jr.’s dangerous record and keep the American public safe.”
