(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) Today, House Democrats forced a vote on the extension of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies for three years. The proposal now heads to the Senate for Republicans to hold up their end of the deal. In response, 314 Action President Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:

“Today, every Democrat voted to restore ACA tax credits. While Republicans overwhelmingly voted no, a handful of vulnerable Republicans in swing districts joined Democrats to pass the bill after they suddenly found a conscience ahead of the midterms. Let’s be clear—this was a vote to save their skin and buy time because the ACA has never been more popular. Now that we have them on the record, 314 Action will continue to hold vulnerable Republicans accountable on this issue.

“This fight is far from over—22 million Americans are already facing exorbitant premiums and one in four ACA marketplace enrollees were forced to cancel their coverage on January 1st. The reality is, Americans can’t afford to be sick in this country because Republicans have created a health insurance crisis. More Americans are uninsured today because they simply cannot afford to pay twice or triple what they’re already paying.

“It’s time for the Senate to hold up their end of the deal and restore the subsidies. If they don’t, millions of Americans will face impossible decisions, be forced to delay care, skip appointments or end up with crippling medical debt. It doesn’t have to be this way—heading into 2026, 314 Action is working with a growing number of doctors running on health care who understand how to fix the system from the inside out, and we’re going to do whatever it takes to get them elected.”
