In a Truth Social post late today, Trump announced he’s appointing the Heritage Foundation’s Chief Economist EJ Antoni to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In response, 314 Action Executive Director Erik Polyak released the following statement:
“Bad job numbers? Don’t worry—Donald Trump just appointed a guy to fix that. Expect job numbers to mysteriously improve overnight. EJ Antoni’s only qualification for the job as the nation’s Chief Statistician is unbridled fidelity to Donald Trump and enacting Project 2025’s extreme agenda. This appointment is another victory for hide-in-the-dark conspiracy theorists—it’s like hiring a flat-earther to run NASA.”
“At a time when fiction is presented as fact, 314 Action’s mission has never been more urgent. We must elect more Democratic scientists and statisticians to public offices in cities, states and Congress to hold the line in 2026 and beyond.”
