(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement ahead of the Senate’s vote on the ‘‘Big Bad Budget Bill,’ which will cut one trillion dollars from Medicaid, stripping health care from millions:
“If Senator Cassidy has any doubts about how he must vote on the budget bill, he should re-read his hippocratic oath. Stripping Medicaid coverage from over 1.6 million vulnerable Louisianians is a complete betrayal of his promise as a doctor. He’s already been fooled once into endangering the American people by voting to confirm RFK Jr. to HHS Secretary. The lives of millions depend on him not making the same mistake twice.
“When sick and poor Louisanans die because they can’t afford health insurance, their blood will be on Senator Cassidy’s hands. As the only doctor in the Senate, he knows that this bill isn’t about waste and fraud—it’s naked cruelty. Every major health care system in the state has sounded the alarm that this bill will devastate their communities and a report found that 33 rural hospitals in Louisiana are at risk of closing.
“Voters have made it clear that they oppose cuts to Medicaid and 314 Action will field candidates in races up and down the ballot to elect leaders who will protect health care.”
