(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — 314 Action Fund today endorsed Daniel Biss for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.

“Mayor Daniel Biss has spent his career fighting for his community—as a local activist, a state legislator, and the Mayor of Evanston. He’s ready to head to Congress to continue to work for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action Fund. “He’s a proven leader, delivering results rooted in facts and data. As Trump and Republicans try to strip millions of their health care to give tax breaks to billionaires, Daniel will work tirelessly to protect the district. We’re proud to endorse him and look forward to supporting his campaign.”

“As we face unprecedented threats against health care, science, and our fundamental freedoms, it’s clear that we need bold new leaders in Congress fighting for us,” said Mayor Daniel Biss. “I’ve spent my career stepping up to lead at the state and local level and now, I’m ready to represent Illinois’ 9th district in Congress. As a former professor of mathematics, I can say the math isn’t mathing in Washington D.C. I’m running to fight back as Republicans prepare to add trillions to the national debt while stealing from the poorest and most vulnerable. I’m proud to have 314 Action’s endorsement and look forward to working together.”

After serving in the Illinois House and State Senate, in 2021 Daniel Biss was elected as mayor of Evanston. Since first taking office, he’s passed legislation to protect LGBTQ+ youth, expanded abortion access, provided retirement savings options to millions, and strengthened technology privacy requirements. He’s never been afraid to take on the difficult fights and is determined to solve the most important issues for Illinoisans.

314 Action Fund is the only national organization working to elect scientists and physicians who are Democrats across all levels of government—from the Senate down to local school boards. The organization is powered by a grassroots community of over six million people supporting scientists, doctors, and STEM professionals who will use science and facts to address our most pressing issues like climate change and health care.
