PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — As Republicans desperately try to distance themselves from Donald Trump and House GOP’s toxic Project 2025, new research revealed the megadonors behind the Heritage Foundation’s agenda to implement Project 2025 have invested heavily to support endangered MAGA extremists Mike Garcia (CA-27), Don Bacon (NE-02), David Schweikert (AZ-01), Brandon Williams (NY-22), Lori Chavez-Deremer (OR-05), and Marianette Miller-Meeks (IA-01). These 6 endangered Republican incumbents have taken over $200,000 from the funders of Project 2025. They are opposed by six Democratic STEM candidates who are leading the fight against Project 2025, including two science teachers, two engineers, a physician, and space technologist.
FOLLOW THE PROJECT 2025 MONEY:
- AZ-01: Representative David Schweikert took over $21,907
- CA-27: Representative Mike Garcia took over $126,000
- IA-01: Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks took over $18,300
- NE-02: Representative Don Bacon took over $25,768
- NY-22: Representative Brandon Williams took over $16,700
- OR-05: Representative Lori Chavez-Deremer took over $9,000
“These MAGA extremists took money from the funders of Project 2025 while claiming not to know anything about it, and now that they’ve been caught red handed, the question is if they’ll return the money and cut their ties to Project 2025,” said Erik Polyak, Managing Director of 314 Action Fund.
“We’re calling on Reps. Bacon, Chavez-Deremer, Garcia, Millers-Meek, Schweikert, and Williams to—once and for all—denounce Project 2025 and return tens of thousands of dollars in contributions. If they truly don’t stand with Project 2025 as they claim, now is the time to prove it to the American people,” continued Polyak.
- Don Bacon on Project 2025: “I haven’t read it. I don’t plan on reading it. I don’t know anyone that’s read 2025.”
- Brandon Williams on Project 2025 “I’ve never had a presentation on it, I’ve never read it. This is really purely a construct of the DCCC and trying to advance a narrative,” Rep. Williams said.
- Lori Chavez-Deremer on Project 2025: “…while Nick Trainer, a senior adviser to Chavez-DeRemer, said Chavez-DeRemer hasn’t read Project 2025 and won’t be reading it.”
“The House GOP’s Project 2025 is a threat to women’s reproductive rights, climate change, and our democracy because it seeks to destroy our fundamental principles and turn back the clock on progress made over decades. These representatives know it—that’s why they’ve gone to such lengths to conceal their ties to the donors behind Project 2025, but it’s now time for them to come clean about their extreme anti-science agenda.”
If reelected, these incumbents will ensure that Project 2025’s key points are enacted. This includes a nationwide abortion ban, eliminating the National Weather Service and the NOAA, and removing protections for pre-existing conditions.
